The platform will be a contact point for all actors in the German social innovation ecosystem. Information will be provided on current topics from research and practice, seminars, workshops and events will be held and networks will be created.

The platform is intended to make a significant contribution to comprehensively informing, networking and empowering social innovators, public and private supporters and representatives from academia about the current state of the art in the field of social innovation. With a digital platform and analogue support measures, the framework conditions for the development and dissemination of social innovations are to be improved in order to contribute to a comprehensive and well-functioning ecosystem for social innovations in Germany.

In parallel to providing information via the digital platform, the team at Social Research Centre will research and identify higher education institutions that are already active in the field of social innovation in research and teaching as well as in the Third Mission. During the project, this research will be supplemented by an inquiry with the aim of understanding the strategic importance of social innovation in the missions of higher education institutions in Germany. In addition, current developments in international research on social innovation will be monitored and key results will be prepared for presentation on the digital platform. These include above all publications, research projects and conferences.
The main aim is to create and establish a platform for social innovation, which will include both online accessible information and analogue support measures. The platform will be established, following the work done in the project "Platform for Social Innovation", with the development and publication of a digital platform as well as initial research work. By a platform for social innovation, the consortium thus understands the interaction of (digital information services, the implementation of online-based and analogue networking events, workshops and conferences as well as the accompaniment and support of intermediary support organisations, public and private funding institutions and higher education institutions.
