The Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) International Conference 2025 took place in Gothenburg from 22 June to 27 June with numerous international speakers and participants. Together with Daniela Nussbaumer and Ingo Bosse (HfH Zurich) as well as Susanne Dirks (TU Dortmund, Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences), Christoph Kaletka organised a focus session on the connection between technology, inclusion and participation. Sfs researcher Daniel Krüger presented research results in this session.

Against the backdrop of recently accelerated developments in the field of technology with potential for greater inclusion and participation through artificial intelligence (AI), around 30 participants and presenters came together on 25 June in the focus session, which was moderated on site by Daniela Nussbaumer (HfH Zurich) and Susanne Dirks (TU Dortmund University) and organised together with Ingo Bosse (HfH Zurich) and Christoph Kaletka (Social Research Center). A total of 7 contributions were presented and discussed, which had in common strong application references for technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality or AI. Researchers from Switzerland, Germany and Brazil were among the presenters. Around 30 participants attended the presentations online and at the venue, engaged in lively discussions and exchanged ideas with the speakers about the findings and possible applications.

In the session, Daniel Krüger presented results from embedded research in facilities of integration assistance in Germany. This research was conducted for the project Arbeiten - wie ich es will! (AWIEW). It provides insights into the context of the participatory design and implementation of an AI-based needs assessment tool that is to be used in the future by people with disabilities who want to orientate themselves professionally and are interested in the transition to the general labour market.
