sfs senior researcher Katrin Bauer travelled to Mumbai, India, in November as representative of sfs and for the topic of social innovation, together with a delegation from the Vice-President International Affairs led by Prof. Tessa Flatten, the International Office, the Center for Entrepreneurship and Transfer (CET), researchers from the TIE Institute and students from the DLab.

In November, a delegation from TU Dortmund University travelled to Mumbai, India, led by the Vice-President International Affairs Prof. Tessa Flatten. The trip aimed at cooperation initiatives between TU Dortmund University and two institutions in India. sfs senior researcher Katrin Bauer joined the delegation as expert for the topic of social innovation.

In addition to many opportunities for intercultural exchange on the topics of research, teaching and transfer in the field of entrepreneurship, one day of the delegation trip was specifically dedicated to the topic of social innovation. Among others, the delegation met researchers from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), with whom the Social Research Center has already collaborated on previous projects. As the TISS was closed due to elections to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly (the equivalent of federal state elections in Germany), elections coincide with public holidays, the delegation met outdoors near the historically relevant Gateway of India.

In a round of talks with keynote speeches, Katrin Bauer presented the topic of social innovation and the Social Research Center's many years of work in this field. She started from a conceptual perspective and shed light on the term social innovation, the ecosystem of social innovation and, for the entrepreneurship researchers in the delegation, how the term social entrepreneurship fits into this understanding. From the large number of third-party funded projects in which the Social Research Center tackles the topic of social innovation, Katrin Bauer went into more detail about the work of the Platform for Social Innovation and Social Enterprises, in which she herself is active, as well as the European Social Innovation Alliance and the predecessor project of the same name. She pitched research approaches and project activities and concluded her talk by emphasizing the increasing relevance of universities and scientific institutions in the social innovation ecosystem.

As part of the eventful and fruitful delegation trip to India, TU Dortmund University further strengthened its internationalization activities. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) in Mumbai, one of India's leading universities. Further talks are also to be held with TISS on cooperation in the not only since recently increasingly important field of social innovation. Initial ideas already emerged during the delegation trip.
