Visitors to the 7th Maker Faire Ruhr were able to get to know Easy Reading, try it out and add their own ideas. The family-friendly hands-on fair took place on 16 and 17 March 2024 at the DASA Arbeitswelt Ausstellung in Dortmund.

Easy Reading is a free browser add-on that enables the independent use of websites through customisable tools. It thus promotes digital participation opportunities for people who have difficulties reading and understanding websites. The difference to accessibility tools previously available on the market is that layout adaptations, reading and explanatory aids and translation functions can be combined with each other and used on an individualised basis as required: Users decide for themselves which tool they want to use on a website. They can choose between a read-aloud function, a reading mode and ruler as well as contrast settings, symbol and image search and translation into eight different languages.

At the 7th Maker Faire Ruhr on 16 and 17 March at the DASA Arbeitswelt Ausstellung in Dortmund, Marie-Christin Lueg from the Social Research Centre Dortmund and Nele Maskut from the Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences were able to inspire many visitors to Easy Reading on behalf of the project team. Among other things, the mobile version of Easy Reading was presented for the first time, which is an extension of the previously available desktop version. In keeping with the motto "touch and try" of the family-friendly hands-on fair, interested people had the opportunity to find out more about the project, get to know Easy Reading, test it and try it out for themselves.

As part of the EVE4all - Simply Understanding for All project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Easy Reading is being validated at the Social Research Centre Dortmund and the Department of Rehabilitation Technology until July 2024. The aims of the project are to identify target groups and use cases for the browser add-on, prove its applicability and effectiveness and develop a model for the sustainable continuation of Easy Reading.
