BRISA Consortium
BRISA was officially launched on 1 June 2026. The research project addresses challenges arising from carcinogenic and emerging industrial air pollutants. The interdisciplinary research project brings together 17 partners from 8 countries and, over the coming years, will investigate how carcinogenic and emerging pollutants, primarily of industrial origin (CEPIPs), can be systematically controlled, thereby reducing risks to human health and biodiversity.

From 14 June 2026 to 15 June 2026, the joint kick-off meeting of all project partners took place in Castellón (Spain). The focus was on setting the course for the upcoming project work and enabling the project partners to get to know one another. The research project is coordinated by the ASOCIACION DE INVESTIGACION DE LAS INDUSTRIAS CERAMICAS (AICE) in Castellón. The aim of the project is to achieve a significant substitution or reduction of hazardous substances and a substantial reduction in exposure through improved controls and real-time risk predictions.

Across Europe, many workplaces continue to be exposed to substances harmful to health, such as crystalline silica, ultrafine particles, incidentally occurring nanoparticles, total volatile organic compounds (tVOCs), benzene, formaldehyde, PFAS, PAHs, microplastics and other substances. Current prevention strategies, monitoring methods and regulatory approaches are failing to keep pace with the scale and complexity of these risks. BRISA aims to bridge this gap by integrating safer materials, intelligent monitoring systems, and practical protective measures for workplace implementation.
