Exploring Exnovation@STS Hub Berlin 2025: At STS Hub Berlin 2025, our panel brought together diverse perspectives on exnovation—from conceptual understanding to urban change to health care—highlighting critical, interdisciplinary approaches in sociology and STS. Thank you to all who contributed to the engaging discussions!

The conference STS Hub Berlin 2025 took place at the Humboldt University in Berlin (11-14 March) and was organised by the Science & Technology Studies (STS) community in Germany. This field has been recognised in the international research landscape. One of the main objectives of this conference was to connect networks, associations and researchers doing critical research. The organisers said: "to strengthen the interconnectedness of STS in Germany, we organise STS-hub.de, a conference series that brings together German organisations, labs, and research groups that are more or less closely related to STS".

The panel on Exnovation. The concept of exnovation has received particular attention in sociology, science and technology studies and environmental studies. This panel responded to the need for critical perspectives in STS and in innovation, seeking collaboration and plurality across disciplines.

The organisers and presenters. After researching and publishing a paper on exnovation with a co-author, Karina initiated the organisation of this panel and invited Jessica Mesman (Maastricht University), who has worked with this concept applied to healthcare.

We had great presentations in three sessions on: 1) Exnovation and Exnovators, 2) Exnovation in Urban and Environmental Contexts, and 3) Exnovation in Health. Thanks to all the presenters and participants.

Our presenters were quite international, coming from Australia, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Austria.
