Celebration of Karina's habilitation with colleagues, family and friends
On July 8, Dr. Karina Maldonado-Mariscal completed her habilitation process at the Faculty of Social Sciences and was granted the venia legendi in the sociology of innovation. Her habilitation thesis was titled “Social Innovation: A Focus on Education and Its Complex Constellations of Actors.” She has meanwhile received her official certificate.

As part of her oral examination on July 8, Dr. Karina Maldonado-Mariscal gave a presentation titled “Exnovation Processes in Innovation Societies: A Sociological Perspective.” In her presentation, she discussed theories on innovation societies, the concept of exnovation, and its connections to innovation. She presented examples of exnovation as well as current and future research projects she is working on.

Her research focuses on social innovation, exnovation, sociological theory and the sociology of innovation, transformative education, and social inequality.

Dr. Karina Maldonado-Mariscal earned her Ph.D. from Humboldt University of Berlin in 2017. After holding positions at Humboldt University of Berlin and ETH Zurich (Switzerland), she has been working at the sfs since 2020 in the research area of Innovation and Education in the Digital Society.
