Marlon Philipp and Antonio Isopp from the Sociology of Technology research area had the opportunity to take part in the three-day International Sustainability Transitions Conference (IST 2024) organized by the Sustainability Transitions Network (STRN) in Oslo last month.

This year's IST was hosted by the University of Oslo in cooperation with SINTEF, INTRANSIT, NTRANS (research institutes), the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.

The interdisciplinary event, which takes place at different locations each year, provided a unique opportunity to present the study "Sustainable Transition in the Automotive Industry: Investigating Incumbent Companies and Their Circularity Efforts" in the session "Incumbent organizations in sustainability transition", which was chaired by Gregor Kungl (University of Stuttgart) and Eeva-Lotta Apajalahti (LUT University), and to discuss it with a renowned international expert audience.

The conference, which this year focused on "Sustainability Transitions and Nature", also provided insights into the latest research findings in the field of sustainable transformations. These range from conceptual studies to empirical work in the context of various sectors such as the automotive and the aviation industry. However, the many motivated and friendly new contacts as well as the fruitful and productive discussions, which made the conference not only a professional but also a personal enrichment, are particularly noteworthy for the staff of the Sociology of Technology.
