In March 18, 2026, Julius Wiegand, PhD candidate at the Social Research Centre (sfs) at TU Dortmund University, presented his research on “Flexible Work, Fragile Care?” at this year’s Forskardagen om äldre och äldreomsorg, a webinar organized by Stockholm University.

Julius Wiegand, currently a guest researcher at the Department of Social Work at Stockholm University, participated in the “Forskardagen om äldre och äldreomsorg” (Research day on Elderly and Elderly Care) held online on March 18, 2026. In his English-language presentation titled “Flexible Work, Fragile Care? The Reshaping of Work Practices in Long-Term Care. An Analysis of Innovative Staffing Pools as an Alternative to Temporary Agency Work in Germany”, he examined how innovative internal staffing pools are transforming work practices in long-term care. Drawing on qualitative studies, he analyzed whether these models, often touted as social innovations, actually address structural deficits or rather normalize precarious working conditions. The presentation sparked considerable interest among participants, including researchers, practitioners, and policymakers in the care sector. The stay in Stockholm also serves to strengthen international cooperation between TU Dortmund University and Stockholm University.
