Sustainable urban planning is a complex challenge, that requires new governance structures and novel and inclusive approaches. In this seminar, which focus on the social and governance challenges of sustainable urban development, barriers and chances for a sustainable city planning will be examined. Innovative urban governance and participation approaches will be discussed, and the students will be encouraged to do further research in search of novel and sustainable approaches that not only cover environmental, but also social and economic challenges. The goal of this seminar is two-fold. Firstly students will learn about the complexity of urban transformation processes.
